Solutions for lightweight construction and fibre composite technology
During the JEC Europe 2012 at stand P38, KraussMaffei will present its know-how regarding machine and process technology for the production of composites along the entire process chain – from component development, pre-production and component testing through to series production and post-mould processing.
Lightweight and rigid designs with polyurethane
PU materials for lightweight yet rigid designs are the focal point of Bayer MaterialScience’s exhibit at stand P 14 at the JEC Europe 2012. One current example is the engine compartment lining of a convertible currently on the market. This lining is made of aluminium and subjected to extraordinary loads. As part of a feasibility study, BMS demonstrated that the covering can be manufactured without modification of the design from a glass fibre-reinforced PU system such as Multitec Short Fiber, reducing the weight of the design by more than 20 % compared with the metal version. This weight saving is achieved without compromising the mechanical properties, such as stone impact resistance, says BMS.
Cannon at JEC Europe 2012
The Cannon Group will exhibit at JEC Europe, held from 27 – 29 March 2012 in Paris, France, at stand H70. New developments in the fields of composites, PU, and thermoforming technologies will be presented, amongst others:
Corium successful with PUR-CSM technology from Hennecke
Corium is the first Canadian company using PUR-CSM technology from Hennecke in the manufacture of end products for the automotive, outdoor, and maritime industries.
Kraton FG1901 for coating application successfully passes demanding test series
Kraton said it has tested the performance properties of an industrial coatings starting point formulation made with Kraton FG1901 using ASTM standards. The testing was performed on bare, cold rolled steel panels with a coating thickness of 2 mils and included salt spray resistance, adhesion, and impact, which all showed very good performance results, according to a company announcement.
Albemarle improves liquid aromatic diamine curative
Albemarle Corporation announced that it has reduced the odour of its Ethacure 300 liquid aromatic diamine curative used in both hot and room-temperature polyurethane cast elastomers and sealants.
BMS launches 2K PU waterborne technology for sealers
One of the fastest growing market segments in the concrete flooring arena is sealers for decorative and polished concrete surfaces. There is a need in this market for a more durable, longer lasting product says Bayer MaterialScience LLC, which has developed a new technology for sealers.
Incorez launches bis-oxazolidine with reduced odour
Incorez has launched a new bis-oxazolidine latent curing agent, Incozol EH – for use in 1K polyurethane coatings, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers.
TPE shortens cycle time in the production of logo plates on engine covers
Mues Products & Moulds GmbH, based in Kolbermoor near Rosenheim, Germany, has put on the market a new type of logo plates for automotive engine covers. Cooperation partner for the development was Kraiburg TPE. The TPE compounder based in Waldkraiburg supplied the material for the soft component of the part. Hipex allows the production of the part in a 2K injection moulding process. Compared to a manual assembly of the hard and the soft component, this shortens the cycle time significantly and reduces the error rate.
American Kuhne introduces modular microextrusion system at MD&M
At the MD&M show from 14 – 16 February 2012 in Anaheim, CA, USA, American Kuhne will feature a running microextrusion line including their 13 mm (1/2”) gearless modular microextruder with pressure control, B&H Tool BH25 MicroCrosshead with spiral deflector, 3-ft precision water bath, Conair Medline puller/cutter and Zumbach ID/OD/WALL system.
CSM glass fibre cutter for longer service life
The German company Hennecke GmbH from Sankt Augustin has launched a new cutting unit for CSM processing plants with chopped fibreglass metering system that has a ten times longer service life than other processes on the market. The system uses a new cutting technique, that significantly reduces downtime, maintenance, and costs.
New sealant and wheel conditioner solutions
Pathway Polymers is offering several new products to the tyre market. These products include a new high-speed sealant and several types of wheel conditioners that are available exclusively through the company.

Teknor Apex has announced that it will introduce a new series of “wet-grip” TPE compounds for injection molding applications at NPE2012.
New mould release agent for PU seating applications
Huron Technologies has recently launched Release Coating 7291. The new mould release agent delivers productivity improvements for moulders of flexible and high resiliency polyurethane foam typically used in seating applications.
TPU long-life diaphragms for industrial units
Diaphragms in industrial units, such as pumps, are subject to harsh conditions. For this reason, the Simrit business unit of the Weinheim-based German company Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has developed diaphragms of thermoplastic polyurethane that are particularly tough. According to the company, the so-called long-life diaphragms can increase the service lives of the units in which these components are installed by up to a factor of three – as compared to plants with conventional acryl nitrite butadiene rubber (NBR) components.
