Naturöl-Polyole: Anwendungen in Polyurethanformschäumen
von F. M. Casati, B. Dawe, S. Fregni, Y. Miyazaki
The interest in polyols derived from seed oils remains high. Most reports to date have concerned natural oil polyols used to make fl exible slabstock foam. In contrast, it is the use of natural oil polyols (NOP) in moulded foam applications which has attracted the attention of the general media, especially in the area of automotive applications.
This paper will report Dow’s preliminary results for the use of NOP in moulded seating foam. Polyols derived from natural oils are very different from each other because all producers use signifi cantly different processes. These will be reviewed briefl y. Moulded foam is a particular challenge for NOP because this application usually requires polyols with high molecular weight and signifi cant primary hydroxyl content.
This paper will present the results for fl exible moulded foam made with TDI, MDI and blended TDI/MDI, and discuss the benefi ts and challenges of processing and physical properties of these foams.
