BASF: First plastic wheel rim for high volume production
von Dr. Gupta Verlag
A special highlight at the BASF stand will be the world’s first all-plastic wheel rim that is suitable for high-volume production. It will be shown on the new concept car smart forvision. The part is made from Ultramid Structure, a long fibre-reinforced PA (see also p. 228 of this issue). Of interest for the automotive industry are furthermore the highly heat-stabilised Ultramid Endure grades for use on turbocharged engines, and the polyether sulfone Ultrason E Dimension, that combines dimensional stability, stiffness, and good processability thanks to a new formulation. Other new products include improved crash-optimised Ultramid PA 6 grades. To illustrate the benefits of improved-flow Ultramid High Speed, BASF runs the material on an Arburg injection moulding machine at a special show on energy efficiency in the East Foyer.
