THAILAND: PTT Global Chemical investing in Perstorp, entering PU business

PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC), in a letter to the Stock Exchange of Thailand, said its board of directors has approved the acquisition of a 51 % interest in Perstorp Holding France for approximately EUR 114.8 million.

Perstorp owns technology for, and is a major producer of isocyanates in Europe and Asia, particularly toluene diisocyanate (TDI), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and derivatives, the main feedstocks in the production of polyurethane, stated PTTGC.  “In this regard, the company foresees that such investment would be a strategic move into the high volume specialty downstream business,” PTTGC said in its letter.

Perstorp, the fourth largest TDI producer in the world, currently has 125,000 t/y of TDI capacity.

Separate reports said PTTGC plans to expand Pestorp’s existing capacity and is considering construction of a new TDI facility in the Asean region, with Thailand a possible location.
