Chemtura, Galata: Additive innovations and growth plans

At this year’s K show in Düsseldorf, Chemtura and Galata Chemicals, formerly Chemtura Vinyl Additives, will exhibit at a joint booth. Chemtura will present innovations within its line of flame retardants, antioxidants, UV stabilisers, polymerisation inhibitors and organometallic specialities for plastics. In addition, the company will inform about some of the investments it is making in R&D, manufacturing expansions, and in emerging markets.

Analytical lab in the Application Development Center in Nanjing

For example, Chemtura has opened a new Application Development Center in the Nanjing Economic & Technological Development Zone in China that serves as the company's technical centre of excellence for its businesses in the Asia/Pacific region. This facility, combined with the expansion of its regional headquarters in Shanghai and further recruitment in Shanghai and Nanjing, support the company's growth plans in China and the region.

Furthermore, Chemtura will introduce a number of new additions to its portfolio of sustainable flame retardants, as part of its "Greener is Better" programme. In response to demand for cost-effective, "greener" and customised dust-free antioxidants and UV-stabilisers, the Weston Liquid Productivity Platform has been created and the company's proprietary Non-Dust Blend (NDB) technology further developed. Expansions to Weston 705 will be highlighted at K 2010, together with the complementary additions of liquid phenolics and blends to the range.

In addition, Chemtura will launch extensions to its range of catalyst components. The new products will carry the Axion trademark, replacing the former Eurecen/Eurenor trade names for single-site catalyst components and donors for Ziegler-Natta PP catalysts.

With the sale of Chemtura's PVC additives business to Artek Aterian Holdings, Galata was formed on 30 April 2010. At the booth, Galata plans to announce a series of initiatives, including growth and investment targets, an increased focus on providing solutions to customer additive needs and the introduction of new products. Thus Galata will present new developments in its portfolio of brands such as Mark, Drapex, Blendex, Royaltuf, Weston, Mark OBS and Markstat. New launches will include boosters to help optimise the cost performance profile of heat stabilisers in PVC formulations, new heavy metal-free organic-based stabilisers for flexible PVC applications, new octyl tin stabilisers designed to replace existing butyl tin products, new REACH conform liquid mixed metals for flexible and semi-rigid PVC applications, a new epoxidised soybean oil plasticiser, and new impact modifiers for PVC and engineering polymers.
