HF Mixing Group: Mixing technology and control systems

At the beginning of 2010, the Harburg-Freudenberger Maschinenbau GmbH, Farrel Corporation, and Pomini Rubber & Plastics Srl have come together as HF Mixing Group.

At a joint stand at K show, the group will present its mixing technology, an enhanced line of products as well as services, such as:

  • Mixers in tangential and intermeshing design
  • Single screw and twin screw dump extruders
  • High performance mixing mills
  • Strip cutting machines
  • Hydraulic rubber bale cutters
  • Control and automation systems
  • Laboratory internal mixers and mills
  • Complete mixing room systems
  • Continuous mixers for plastics compounding applications
  • Pelletisers
  • Melt pumps

Harburg-Freudenberger develops and manufactures Intermix intermeshing mixers as well as control systems, Farrel produces Banbury batch mixers and FCM continuous mixers, whereas the Italian company Pomini concentrates on the manufacturing of intermeshing mixers with variable rotor clearance – VIC type – as well as of Convex twin screw dump extruders. Furthermore, Pomini will inform about its new mill extruder featuring Milex technology. According to the company, the aim of this technology is to replace open roll mills while guaranteeing the same homogeneity ("distributive" and "recovery mixing") without temperature increase and without stagnation zones, for allowing self cleaning. Standard screws for traditional twin screw extruders are designed for high production capacity only. By studying flowfield of processed material, and in detail by balancing axial flow and other different types of backflows with respect to main flow, it was possible to achieve a screw and chamber configuration capable of producing effects comparable to roll mills, says Pomini.
