Glass fibre-reinforced PLA compounds
RTP Company has launched a new line of glass fibre-reinforced PLA compounds that are said to overcome many limitations of unmodified PLA by delivering greater strength, stiffness, and thermal performance. The new materials target durable and semi-durable applications.
Engel delivers turnkey MuCell systems
With immediate effect, Engel is delivering full systems for MuCell foam injection moulding on a turnkey basis world-wide, thereby covering the entire physical foaming process chain from a single source.
Technical polymer blends for automotive and electrical applications
Glass fibre-reinforced semi-crystalline thermoplastics are known for their tendency to warp, a tendency which is significantly reduced by adding SAN or ASA. This combination guarantees a good finish and enables the use in numerous applications for visible parts.
Optimised extrusion line for TPE/PP sealing profiles
KraussMaffei Berstorff has bundled the technical knowledge and expertise of the production sites in Hanover and Munich in a new high-end extrusion line for the production of sealing profiles. The line is designed for processing polypropylene or thermoplastic elastomers of different hardness degrees.
SPE announces finalists in 41st Automotive Innovation Awards competition
The Automotive Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) has announced the finalists for its 41st annual Automotive Innovation Awards Competition, the oldest and largest recognition event in the automotive and plastics industries. Finalists survived a pre-qualification round, as well as presentations before a panel of industry experts on September 29-30. Those selected from that round presented again before a Blue Ribbon panel of judges on October 10. Category and Grand Award winners selected during the Blue Ribbon judging will be announced on November 9 during the Automotive Innovation Awards Gala in Detroit.
Desma to showcase Benchmark S3 vertical machine in Shanghai

New impact modifiers for PA6 an PA66 in low temperature applications
For the automotive, industrial, and household markets, Arkema has developed the new grade Lotader 2200, specifically suited to the manufacture of PA66 components requiring impact resistance at very low temperatures (e. g. rearview mirror, hubcap, handle, lawnmower body, etc.).
Teijin Aramid launches black Twaron fibre
Teijin Aramid has started the production of the first all black aramid fibre Twaron Black in Emmen, Netherlands. Twaron, normally golden yellow in colour due to the chemical process, now is available in black in the same quality. At the request of customers in the sailing and sports industries, the company started to investigate other colours for the fibre. Twaron Black will soon be seen for the first time in the sails of the world’s largest ocean sailing race, the Volvo Ocean Race.
Mould-free sealing for ventilation ducts
Poor sealing of ventilation systems in buildings results in rising energy costs and the formation of mould. Air ducts are often constructed using pre-manufactured rubber compression gaskets to seal the transitions between the individual elements. Over time, however, these gaskets lose their elasticity and become brittle. As a result, their sealing effect decreases, leaving cavities in which mould can form.
