Zeon: Cost-effective TPVs for automotive applications

Zeon markets a range of TPVs under the brand Zeotherm. In 2009 the company has extended this product line with the addition of two new types: 110-70B and 131-90B. The 110-70B injection moulding type has been designed to achieve a lower cost than other 100-series grades.

Capable of continuous heat exposure to 140 °C and excursions to 150 °C, it can be welded (hot-plate, spin) or overmoulded directly to polyamides. The 131-90B grade is designed to withstand the increasing temperature extremes for air induction system ducting. It is targeted for clean air intake ducts, charge air cooler ducts, and crankcase ventilation (EGR/PCV) components. It is able to withstand continuous exposure to 150 °C, while still retaining its flexibility and a minimal loss of mechanical properties. For applications demanding performance above 150 °C, Zeotherm 131-90B is capable of withstanding 175 °C extremes for one week (168 h) exposure and short-term exposure to 190 °C.

Besides the Zeotherm TPVs the elastomer portfolio of Japanese Zeon contains Nipol NBR, HyTemp and Nipol ACM, Hydrin ECO, and Zetpol HNBR for the production of hoses, seals, gaskets, belts and other parts for automotive, industrial, oil field, and printing markets.
