SPE to honor achievements of industry leaders at Antec 2013

Four individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the plastics industry will be honored by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) at Antec, which will take place from 22 – 24 April 2013 at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, OH, USA. The awards will be presented as part of the society’s Annual Awards Program at the SPE Celebrates Banquet on 21 April 2013.

Kafka joins Sibur

In November 2012 Christian Kafka, 44, joined Sibur as Director TPE of the SBS business activities.

Murray becomes President of Teknor Apex

William J. Murray has been appointed as new President of Teknor Apex. He succeeds Jonathan D. Fain, who remains CEO and becomes chairman of the board.

Edwards succeeds McElya as CEO of Cooper Standard

Jeffrey S. Edwards, 50, succeeds James McElya as President and CEO of Cooper Standard, Novi, MI, USA. McElya has retired as an executive of the company as of 15 October 2012.

Murphy new VP of R & D and CIO at PolyOne

Dr. Christopher J. Murphy has joined PolyOne as Vice President, Research and Development, and Chief Innovation Officer (CIO). He succeeds Dr. Cecil Chappelow, who is retiring after an accomplished 38-year career in the speciality chemicals industry.

Fouletier new Chairman of the Board of Perstorp

After more than 12 years with Perstorp, first as President and CEO and most recently as Chairman of the Board, Lennart Holm has decided to leave his position with the company. Fabrice Fouletier of PAI partners, who has been a Board Member of Perstorp since 2006, will succeed Holm, effective from 25 October 2012.

Gründken appointed to Technical Manager at Kuraray Europe

On 1 July 2012 Marcel Gründken joined Kuraray Europe GmbH, Hattersheim, Germany, as Technical Manager.

Page promoted to Global Marketing Director at GLS

Charles Page is the new Global Marketing Director for GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers, PolyOne Corporation, based in Gaggenau, Germany. He has been part of PolyOne since 2003, but started his career as a formulator at AlphaGary Corporation in England, twelve years ago.

New appointments at Teknor Apex

Jeffrey E. Dickerhoof has joined Teknor Apex as a Senior Market Manager, responsible for TPE sales and business development in the North American transportation market. He entered the plastics and elastomers industry in 1998 when he joined Advanced Elastomer Systems.

Bauza-Petrovic joins IISRP as Director of Programs

Effective 13 August 2012, Roxanna Bauza-Petrovic has joined the staff of the International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers, Inc. (IISRP) and will serve as the Director of Programs.

Change of leadership at Freudenberg

Dr. Peter Bettermann, 65, who has been Speaker of the Management Board and general partner of Freudenberg & Co. Kommanditgesellschaft for many years, has officially handed over responsibility to his successor, Dr. Mohsen Sohi, 53, on 1 July 2012. Following 18 years on the Management Board, Bettermann has gone into retirement on 30 June 2012.

Smith promoted to New Business Development and Technical Project Manager at Teknor Apex

Christopher G. Smith has been appointed to the position of New Business Development and Technical Project Manager for non-automotive TPE markets at Teknor Apex. He will focus on projects in market areas of strategic importance to Teknor Apex Europe, such as consumer products and medical devices. In these sectors the company has introduced to the European marketplace two TPE families, the Medalist medical elastomers and Monprene styrene block copolymer-based compounds.

Kuwahara taking over new duties at Kuraray

As of 1 May 2012 Shigenao Kuwahara, 41, has taken over responsibility for a broader range of tasks at the BU Elastomers of Kuraray Europe GmbH. In his position as Technical Manager, he is now responsible for the Septon and Hybrar series, the Kurarity TPEs as well as KLR Kuraray Liquid Rubber.

Wörner joins management of Albis Plastic

Carsten Wörner, 42, has been appointed to the newly created position of CSO (Chief Sales Officer) at Albis Plastic, Hamburg, Germany. Since April 2012 Wörner is in charge of international sales and the application technology division in the Albis group and manages all 16 subsidiaries.

Teknor Apex has named three new TPE sales and marketing managers. Louis Freitas is now market manager in charge of the distribution network in the Americas for the company’s TPE products.

SPE names new President and new CEO

James S. Griffing, a technical fellow at the Boeing Company, was appointed as new President of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) for 2012 – 2013, succeeding Russell C. Broome. An SPE member since 1989, Griffing most recently held the positions of President-elect (2011 – 2012), Senior Vice President (2010 – 2011), and Treasurer of the SPE (2009 – 2010).

Teknor Apex appoints new TPE sales and marketing managers

Teknor Apex has named three new TPE sales and marketing managers. Louis Freitas is now market manager in charge of the distribution network in the Americas for the company’s TPE products. He has held engineering positions with DSM Thermoplastic Elastomers and Telles/Metabolix, and worked in distribution sales for EMS-Grivory America. In nine years with DSM, Freitas focused on the Sarlink TPV product range, now owned by Teknor Apex. He holds a bachelors degree in plastics engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
