Lubrizol and Merquinsa to exhibit at Feiplastic 2013

The Lubrizol Corporation and Merquinsa, a Lubrizol company, announced that they will be participating at the international plastic trade fair Feiplastic 2013 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 20 – 24 May 2013, at stand F60. Lubrizol and Merquinsa will be showcasing their integrated portfolio of engineered polymer solutions.

Unimatec presents new high temperature TPV

Unimatec Chemicals Europe, Weinheim, Germany, has entered the exclusive club of “Super-TPVs” by introducing a new material that will be marketed under the trade name AcrylXprene. The material is based on Unimatec’s heat stable acrylic rubber (HT-ACM) Noxtite.

Teknor Apex at Interwire

Elexar ist the RoHS- and REACH-compliant TPE brand for wire + cable applications of Teknor Apex. At Interwire 2013 in Atlanta, GE, USA, the company presented the Elexar EL-1934 series with UL-94 flammability ratings of V0 at 0.060 in. (1.52 mm); the grades meet UL 1581 WV-1 and 1061 flammability tests without dripping, and have limiting oxygen indices in the 28-32 % range. All of the compounds are UL 2556-registered for long term aging at 105 °C, are UL-1581-registered for sunlight resistance, and have brittle points of -55 °C or lower. Shore A hardness ranges from 58 to 82.

Matt TPU for wire and cable

Irogran A 85 C 5024 DP is a non-blooming, matt, polyester-based TPU for the wire and cable market developed by Huntsman Polyurethanes. It is a new material that eliminates the risk of blooming – an effect that occurs when additives migrate to the surface of a material and become visible. The halogen-free and easy-to-process TPU offers a consistent matt finish and stable extrusion qualities and is well-suited for wire and cable applications such as jacketing, spiral and data cables.

RadiciGroup to focus on speciality plastics at Feiplastic 2013

From 20 – 24 May 2013, RadiciGroup will exhibit in São Paulo, Brazil, at the Feiplastic international plastics trade fair, one of the major events in South America for the plastics industry.

New drinking water application for Thermolast K

New Pebax grade for medical applications

Pebax MV1074 SA 01 MED is the name of Arkema’s new hydrophilic polyether block amide copolymer for medical applications. It is is suitable for use in minimally invasive devices that are exposed to bodily fluids for less than 30 days, such as surgical tubing. The material is USP VI certified and is said to offer excellent high moisture absorption properties for device components in wet environments, such as catheters.

TPE solutions for automotive mats

Hexpol TPE has developed several TPE grades specifically engineered to address the requirements for automotive mats. The Dryflex AM range includes grades based on SBS and SEBS in hardnesses from 50 to 75 Shore A. High flow grades are available which have been designed for complex mouldings with a large surface area such as trunk liners. Other applications for these materials include floor mats, coin mats, fascia mats and trim.

TPE solution for breathable membranes in outdoor clothing

A thermoplastic elastomer can be used as an alternative to PTFE-based membranes for breathable and waterproof outdoor clothing.

TPEs as alternative to rubber in plunger seals for single-use syringes

Elasto offers new Mediprene grades for plunger seals in single-use syringes. The TPE seal, which is mounted on the end of the plunger, needs to provide a leakproof seal with the syringe barrel. As ease of use for the medical practitioner and patient comfort are also key requirements, the seal helps to optimise plunger movement for accurate dosage control and ease of injection.

Thermolast M now approved for processing up to direct blood contact

The product series Thermolast M from Kraiburg TPE recently has been certified according to DIN ISO 10993-4. This certification allows the processing up to the liability risk of direct contact with medicine and blood.
