Arlanxeo: 2019 Open-to-Public Day hosted at Changzhou EPDM plant
On 29 June 2019, Arlanxeo hosted an event titled “Open-to-public Day & Transforming for Sustainable Community 2019” at its Changzhou EPDM plant. According to the company, under the theme of “Promoting Circular Economy & Building Safety Culture”, the open day facilitated an industry-wide discussion for the purpose of enhancing chemical companies’ safety awareness, building safety brand and culture, and realizing a sustainable future. On the day of the event, Arlanxeo received about 350 visitors, including Changzhou government officials, representatives from local universities and neighboring companies, nearby residents, Arlanxeo employees and their family members.
During the event, Arlanxeo held the commitment ceremony for the “Transforming for Sustainable Community” program. Initiated by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF), this program aims to bring together Chinese and foreign petrochemical companies and bolster the industry’s sustainable development. The Open-to-Public Day also responded to the call of the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM), successfully brought the company closer to the public and served as a platform for exchanging ideas regarding the circular economy, said Arlanxeo.
As a highlight of the open day event, Arlanxeo hosted a safety seminar entitled “Establish and Improve Safety Management System, to Promote A Safety Upgrade of Chemical Companies”, which engaged government officials and industry peers to participate in the discussion about optimizing safety management of company and the industry.
Committed to promoting safety and innovation for the future of the industry, Arlanxeo also invited teachers and students from Changzhou University and Changzhou Vocational Institute of Engineering to attend the event, and three student representatives from Changzhou University shared their research results regarding chemical safety and environmentalism. Moreover, the company organized a school-enterprise cooperation exchange meeting, and arranged a plant tour at the same time, enabling the students to experience its advanced technologies as well as production and operational processes, to contribute to talent cultivation for the industry.
Shan Zhengzhong, Member of Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of Administrative Committee of Changzhou Binjiang Economic Development Zone, said: “Arlanxeo Open-to-public Day provides an effective platform for leading chemical companies to share their best safety and sustainability practices while raising public awareness towards the industry. In the future, I hope to see more companies coming together to raise the overall chemical industry development in Binjiang Economic Development Zone to a new level.”

In the afternoon, Arlanxeo held a “Family Day” event, which engaged its employees and their families to participate in diversified programs such as a painting competition titled “Safety in Your Eyes” and other creative games, to promote safety knowledge and enhance the company’s safety culture through actual dialogues and interactions.
Arlanxeo is a synthetic rubber producer with sales of around EUR 3.2 billion in 2018, about 3,900 employees and a presence at 20 production sites in nine countries. The company was established in April 2016 as a joint venture of Lanxess and Saudi Aramco. On 1 January 2019, Saudi Aramco became the sole owner of Arlanxeo. The Changzhou EPDM plant is one of the company's most advanced production sites and was inaugurated in 2015 with a nameplate capacity of 160,000 t/y. Arlanxeo China officially commenced operations on 1 August 2016. Headquartered in Changzhou, Arlanxeo China is staffed by around 330 employees, with production facilities in Changzhou and Nantong, in addition to a sales and administration office in Shanghai. Arlanxeo is also a partner of a joint venture with TSRC Corporation at its Nantong site.
