Dow has received a 2021 FutureEdge 50 award for its Predictive Intelligence capability, Dow Polyurethanes’ flagship digitalisation initiative. The FutureEdge 50 awards annually recognise 50 organisations pushing the edge of innovation with breakthrough technologies to advance their business for the future.
The Predictive Intelligence capability, created in collaboration with Microsoft, was recognised for its cutting-edge innovation in transforming the polyurethane product development process. Predictive Intelligence combines Dow’s material science expertise with Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning experience to reimagine R+D, speeding up the 2–3-month long product development process for polyurethane formulations by 200,000x, reducing the discovery phase to just 30 seconds.

According to the company, this capability not only enables faster product development of differentiated solutions, but its development also marks a new phase in Dow’s digitalisation journey. The capability was developed through adopting a new way of working across disciplines, functions and geographies by embracing an agile mindset that enables rapid innovation, the company said. Dow Polyurethanes is actively pursuing digitalisation projects across its business operations, from R+D to marketing, customer ordering, logistics and manufacturing.
