Tyre CEOs discussed global environmental, health research program

The chief executive officers of 11 major tyre manufacturers from the USA, Europe and Asia met in Los Angeles Feb. 9 to set an agenda for their global research program dealing with the potential environmental and health impacts of their products.

Their last meeting took place in Geneva in2005, and they pledged there to provide USD1million to fund an international research program probing the environmental and health effects of materials used during tyre manufacture and tyre-wear particles generated during normaluse.

Goodyear, Bridgestone and Michelin are co-leaders of the group, which also includes ContinentalAG, Cooper Tire & RubberCo., Hankook TireCo., Kumho TireCo.Inc., Pirelli&C., Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., Toyo Tire & RubberCo.Ltd., and Yokohama RubberCo.Ltd.
