Finke to showcase colourants for bio-plastics at Fakuma 2017
Finke has developed of a range of Fibaplast masterbatches for colouring bio-plastics. The possibilities enabled by the new colourants will be presented in Finke’s Susbox at Fakuma 2017.
Masterbatch and colourant formulations have to take into account the bio-plastics’ special properties and their processability. But attention must also be paid to the properties of each of the recipe’s components, because they have to be biodegradable or derived from renewable resources as well, depending on the specification of the final product.
The Susbox contains 14 injection moulded chips made from PLA, PBS, WPC, TPS, Bio-PE, Bio-PP and Bio-PET. The samples are coloured with the newly developed Fibaplast bio-masterbatch, which is bio-degradable according to EN 13432. All components of the recipe, from pigments and colourants to fillers and additives, have been assessed, tested and approved for this application. The Susbox also contains one uncoloured chip of each polymer, allowing the assessment of the colourant’s effect on product properties.
In addition an extruded bio-degradable PLA film is included in the Susbox, as well as four blow moulded bottles made from bio-polymers or recycled polymers. The contents of Susbox also comprises a presentation on plastics and sustainability explaining important terms and giving a summary on production and properties of common bio-polymers as well as providing information on market and certification.
