Huntsman presents PU materials for the footwear industry at ISPO 2019
Footwear material experts from Huntsman exhibited at ISPO 2019, the international trade show for sports equipment and fashion, which took place from 3 – 6 February 2019 in Munich, Germany.
Sharing space on the Fitstation by HP in hall A5, stand 224, Huntsman discussed the polyurethane materials it has developed to support the production of personalised footwear on multi-segment injection moulding machines, including novel manufacturing methods for the production of custom-made shoes. According to Huntsman, around the world, demand is growing for tailor-made shoes, which are designed to fit a person’s feet perfectly. This trend is gathering real momentum across the industry – but particularly in the sports shoe sector, where better, more comfortable fitting footwear can help improve the performance of professional athletes and keep fit enthusiasts, said the company.
Hugo Verbeke, Global Development Manager PU Elastomers at Huntsman, said: “The sports shoe sector has always operated at the cutting edge of the footwear industry – coming up with ever more creative, ever more inventive designs. With long-standing relationships in place throughout the sports shoe value chain, our material experts have kept pace with the speed of change – working closely with machinery manufacturers to develop materials that can be easily processed on new pieces of equipment. This includes technologies that can be used for the manufacture of customised shoes and systems that can be scaled for mass-market manufacture.”
Huntsman’s team also talked about the benefits polyurethane chemistry can bring to the manufacture of 3D printed parts – another area of the footwear industry that’s moving forwards quickly.
