Dow introduces family of high-melt-strength POE for Auto TPO applications

The Dow Chemical Company has introduced ENR 7487.00 developmental polyolefin elastomer (POE), the latest in its Engage family of high-melt-strength POEs that is said to deliver very good economics, processing and aesthetics by enabling the use of extrusion blow moulding, thermoforming and high-shear profile extrusion to create high-quality TPO parts.

The new material is produced by using Insite, Dow’s proprietary single-site catalyst solution and process technology. ENR 7487 and Dow’s other next-generation HMS POEs offer broad service temperature performance when combined with branched polypropylenes, without the need for complex reactive compounding. In addition, the high melt strength leads to improved sheet and profile extrusion and thermoforming, as well as good low-gloss capabilities.
ENR 7487.00 developmental POE is an ethylene-butene copolymer with a melt index of less than 0.5, Shore A hardness of 58 and density of 0.860 g/cm³. It is especially suited for reduced-gloss TPOs, SEBS extension, flexible soft-touch compounds, wire and cable and impact modification.
