Hybrid SBC-OBC for refrigerator gaskets

In the white goods segment sealing systems are used in a variety of equipments, such as washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators and deep-freezers.

Changes in regulations like REACH combined with high environmental expectations have made some of the present solutions obsolete, in particular plasticised PVC gaskets with phtalates. To meet these demands, CTS Cousin-Tessier has developed TéfablocTP for refrigerator gaskets.

The new material is a hybrid of the company’s established Téfabloc styrenic block copolymer (SBC) formulations for building and automotive sealing systems and of olefin block copolymers (OBC), a technology developed by Dow and marketed as Infuse polymers.

CTS has signed a licence agreement with Dow to include Infuse polymers in TPE formulations branded as TéfablocTP. According to CTS, the new material can be extruded on the same equipment as refrigerator gaskets made of plasticised PVC and it does not require further investments.
