Viscoelastic foam with temperature independent comfort

von Kevin Pickin

PCC Rokita has an ongoing programme to develop new polyols based on understanding the needs of the polyurethanes supply chain all the way to the end user. Consequently, customers were asked for feedback about viscoelastic foam and, amongst the many well known aspects, the following customer comments caught PCC's interest: “Whether it is winter or summer, when we deliver a mattress it is very important that it feels the same to our customer as it did when they chose it in our showroom.” and “We want our mattresses with viscoelastic toppers to feel the same when people get into bed whatever the season.” So the challenge was laid down to improve low temperature viscoelastic foam feel and comfort properties.

As an established polyol solutions supplier to the flexible polyurethane foam industry, PCC Rokita understands that foam manufacturers require both TDI- and MDI-based solutions. Under the umbrella brand, iPoltec – intelligent polyurethanes technology – PCC Rokita has successfully developed novel polyol formats to enable the production of viscoelastic foams featuring superior low temperature comfort utilising both TDI T80 and MDI.
