Innovative measuring techniques for monitoring compounding processes have made considerable progress in the last couple of years. Despite demonstrated maturity and viability for numerous industrial applications, the plastics processing industry does not use the vast potential of these technologies, which offer to analyse more parameters than just the melting pressure or temperature.
A recent survey of this sector revealed that most companies know and appreciate the advantages of inline methods, but still do not implement these tools even in cases where the analytical abilities coincide precisely with user demands. In this article, we want to summarise the state-of-the-art of the most important and readily available inline techniques as well as their potential.
