API’s Apinat family of soft biodegradable thermoplastic compounds has been available since June 2008. These products are recyclable and biodegradable under aerobic conditions in accordance with EN 13432, EN 14995 and ASTM D6400 norms. With the aim to offer a wider range of bioplastic materials that can help the reduction of CO2 emissions, API has recently created a new formula based on renewable raw materials (from agricultural sources). The content of these renewable resources can vary between 15 – 40 % of the total compound.
The new product is the result of a comprehensive R & D programme at the API laboratory which has lead to the creation of a complete range of polymers derived from renewable raw materials from non-food sources. Products based on renewable resources contribute to the climate protection decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2. The use of bioplastics like Apinat can help businesses companies, associations, local councils and governments, engaged in reaching greenhouse gas reduction targets set by the Kyoto Protocol, reduce the overall environmental impact of the products.
