A novel cyclic carbosiloxane building block for sol-gel coatings and hybrid systems with optimised properties
von Robert Maleika, Arno Nennemann
The use of novel cyclic sol-gel precursors in inorganic coatings enables their properties to be combined with those of organic coatings. The corresponding sol-gel precursor has been produced by means of hydrosilylation of D4-vinylsiloxane and subsequent ethanolysis under controlled conditions. This gives a polyfunctional oligomeric cyclosiloxane which can be stored for extended periods of time. Both inorganic coatings in combination with other sol-gel building blocks as well as hybrid coatings with polyurethanes, the latter based on interpenetrating networks, exhibit a significantly improved property profile, in particular an advantageous combination of hardness and elasticity.
