The trade fair organiser P. E. Schall GmbH & Co. KG announced in a special press release issued on 23 July 2020 that it has decided – in cooperation with the exhibitor advisory board for Fakuma 2020 – to "postpone" the 27th Fakuma to the year 2021. The international trade fair for plastics processing will now take place from 12 – 16 October 2021 in Friedrichshafen, Germany. In this regard, the "postponement" of the trade fair is de facto equivalent to a cancellation, because the next Fakuma was already planned for 2021 anyway.

The polystyrene producers AmSty, Ineos Styrolution and Trinseo have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to jointly explore recycling options for polystyrene. According to the three partners, the companies are committed to a circular economy for polystyrene.

OECD countries have agreed to update rules on the export of hazardous plastic waste for recycling in line with international changes so that advance consent from destination countries will be required ahead of shipping. However, they did not reach consensus on updated arrangements for the export of non-hazardous plastic waste. OECD countries have agreed to review the situation for non-hazardous plastic waste in 2024.

Zahoransky has received a large order for systems for the processing of vaccine containers. A US company has placed a major order with a value of EUR 25 million for eleven automation lines and six removal units for vaccine containers (vials). Zahoransky supplies the manufacturer of coated COP (cyclo olefin polymer) vaccine containers with the first automation lines required for production; others will gradually be delivered afterwards.

Nouryon has selected Green Bay in Wisconsin as the location for a new facility to produce its Expancel expandable microspheres. Expancel is used as a lightweight filler and blowing agent to make end products lighter and obtain different surface effects. They also reduce costs and environmental impacts by requiring less raw material. Key end-use markets include the automotive, construction, packaging and mining industries.

On 14 July 2020, the Feddersen Group acquired 75 % of the shares in the Norwegian company Protec Scandinavia AS and 100 % of the shares in Protec Scandinavia Sweden AB from Pemel Holding AS. Both companies trade in machinery and equipment for the plastics processing industry and represent long-established manufacturers in this segment.
