Huntsman to launch new TPU grades at Chinaplas 2014

At this year’s event, Huntsman will update customers on its new, state-of-the art production capabilities and will launch two new TPU grades for injection moulding. Designed with footwear applications in mind, the two new materials have been developed to meet the needs of high quality shoe manufacturers producing high performance soccer shoes and other cleated plates for sports.

• Avalon 95 ABU is a UV-protected, polyester-based TPU for injection moulding, which offers exceptional long-term UV resistance (significantly higher than current available offerings), outstanding abrasion resistance, a fast cycle time and good flex performance – even at low temperatures. Ideal for sports footwear, this material can also be used to create top pieces and components such as cleats, shanks, counters and decorative parts
• Avalon 95 AHT is a highly transparent, UV-protected, polyester-based TPU for injection moulding. Crystal clear and UV stabilised to ensure long-term integrity, Avalon 95 AHT is said to be ideal for transparent outsoles. It can also be used to produce see-through components and windows to hold logos and other decorative elements in shoes, boots and trainers.

To support the launch of the products, Yi Li, Technical Service Manager APAC at Huntsman, will present a conference paper on the innovations on 25 April 2014 at 10 am in room M43. Yi has twelve years’ experience in engineering thermoplastics and will share his insights into materials and processing technologies.

Huntsman’s TPU products are used in an extensive range of consumer and industrial applications from sports, footwear, automotive, wires and cables, films, sheets and adhesives.
