Oil- and plasticiser-free TPEs for beverage closures

A new series of completely oil/plasticiser-free TPEs has been developed by Elastocon TPE Technologies, Inc., Rochester, IL, USA.

The TPEs of the OF 75 series have been designed for the manufacture of synthetic cork for wine and cap liners for other bottled beverages

They are expressly designed for the manufacture of synthetic corks for wine and cap liners for bottled beverages. The low coefficient of friction enables the cork to be removed from the bottle more easily than natural corks. The types of the OF75 series offer high strength and good resilience, they are said to be odourless and are FDA compliant. The finished products can be printed and coloured.

The formulations are available in hardness ranges from 60 to 80 Shore A. The elastomers are opaque natural in appearance. Elastocon can provide this TPE in any colour of choice or in translucent natural for colouring by the moulder prior to injection moulding or extruding the final product.
