Kuraray expands PVA business

Kuraray Co., Ltd. will construct a new polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) resin production facility at its subsidiary Kuraray America, Inc. in La Porte, TX, USA. With a planned production capacity of 40,000 t/y in the first phase, the new facility will be able to meet demands for markets in North America as well as Central and South America, says Kuraray.

The completion of facility construction is scheduled for September 2014. According to the company, following on business expansion in Japan, Singapore, and Germany, this move will secure a fourth production base.

Furthermore, Kuraray will acquire MonoSol, LLC., a manufacturer of polyvinyl alcohol film with headquarters in Merrillville, IN, USA, from parent company MonoSol Holdco, LLC. With approximately 300 employees, Monosol, LLC operates production facilities in the USA and UK. Through this acquisition, Kuraray will expand its product offering of poval films into a wider range of industrial applications. The company currently supplies PVA film for optical-uses including a polarising film for liquid crystal displays. MonoSol manufactures complementary film products.
