Donau Chemie lays cornerstone of new water purification chemicals plant at Kazincbarcika

The new site, Donau Chemie’s first production facility in Hungary, is planned to commence operation in April 2013. The new FeCl₃/PAC plant is being built at the Kazincbarcika site of Wanhua-BorsodChem and will process hydrochloric acid by-products from Wanhua-BorsodChem’s new TDI-2 facility into environmentally friendly water treatment chemicals.

Franz Geiger, CEO of Donau Chemie, laid the cornerstone for the new plant alongside Ding Jiansheng, Chairman and President of Wanhua-BorsodChem, whose Kazincbarcika facility provides the base and the feedstock for the new Donau Chemie plant.

“Wanhua-BorsodChem is glad to see these developments,” said Chairman Ding. “We are committed to the buildout of the chemicals industry in North-Eastern Hungary, and are pleased and proud to act as a basis for downstream businesses, whether local or international. We expect to see even more investment in the region and the sector in future.”

The new plant represents an initial investment of EUR 6.4 million, and will employ some 25 people on completion. Once operational, it will produce 75,000 t/y of FeCl₃ and 30,000 t/y of PAC. Its output will be marketed through Donau Chemie’s distribution network in Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, the Ukraine and beyond, as well as in Hungary.

Donau Chemie AG has operations in Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, and the US. Its Hungarian subsidiary Donauchem Kft. has been in operation since 1994, with an entirely Hungarian workforce. The new Kazincbarcika site is just one of its planned developments in Hungary.
