SAUDI ARABIA: Advanced Petrochemical boosts propylene supply; will expand Jubail PP plant capacity
Under the new agreement, which takes effect on 1 Jan. 2014 for a period of five years, Satorp will supply Advanced with a total of 80,000 t/y of propylene. The prior agreement was for the supply of 50,000 t/y of propylene for three years starting next January.
Advanced noted that “this supply will provide additional propylene, which will contribute to increase the production of polypropylene (PP) by the same amount,” or 30,000 t/y. Advanced currently operates a 450,000-t/y PP plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
Satorp, a joint venture owned 62.5% by Saudi Aramco and 37.5% by Total, is building a $12.8-billion complex in Jubail that involves a 400,000-b/d full conversion refinery that will include the production of 200,000 t/y of polymer-grade propylene. The project is scheduled to come on stream this year.
