IRAN: First phase of Ilam petrochemical complex to be commissioned in ‘near future’

The first phase of the Ilam petrochemical complex in western Iran will be officially inaugurated in the near future, according to the Fars News Agency. The first phase involves a 300,000-t/y high-density polyethylene plant that had originally been expected to begin production by the end of 2007.

The unit is expected to be “fully” operational soon, the report said.

A 132 kilometer connection between the West Ethylene Pipeline system and Ilam petrochemical complex, which will supply feedstock to the complex, is nearing completion.

Feedstock will also be sourced from the Ilam gas processing plant.

Earlier, Iran’s National Petrochemical Co. (NPC) said the Ilam project will also include the production of 450,000 t/y of ethylene and about 100,000 t/y of propylene.

NPC’s Petrochemical Commercial Co. subsidiary holds a 57 percent interest in the Ilam complex.
