Dow increases polyol capacities

Dow Polyurethanes will increase polyol capacity at its Freeport, TX, USA, facilities as a result of debottlenecking. The extra capacity will expand the company’s capability to leverage low carbon ethylene oxide costs in the US Gulf Coast. It will also enable increased output of base polyols to be used in the expanded copolymer polyols facility, as well as extra volumes of flex slab and CASE polyols to the NAA markets.

A 165,000 t/y polyether polyol facility utilising DMC catalyst technology will be added to the Map Ta Phut, Thailand, site. A time table for this project was not given. This capacity is said to reduce logistical costs and transportation risks by minimising the amount of transportation across different assets in the region
