Continental expands tyre business in India and Brazil

In India, Continental has signed an agreement with Modi Rubber Ltd. (MRL), for the acquisition of a 100 % shareholding in Modi Tyres Company Limited (MTCL), a subsidiary of MRL. After completion of the transaction, MTCL will become a fully owned subsidiary of Continental.

The company will focus on local production and distribution of bias and radial truck/bus tyres as well as radial passenger car tyres for the Indian market.
Furthermore, Continental will invest USD 210 million to almost double the production capacity of its tyre plant located in the Industrial Park of Camaçari, Bahia, Brazil, by the end of 2015. About 400 new jobs will be created. The plant currently employs 1,150 people. In 2010, the factory produced about 4.5 million passenger tyres and 350,000 truck tyres. This year, capacity will increase to more than 5 million passenger tyres and 450,000 truck tyres. The goal is to expand production to meet the expected growth of the markets supplied by this plant in NAFTA and Latin America, says Continental.
