Premiere for Benchmark S3 vertical machine
The Benchmark series has been the most important machine series of Desma since its market launch at the K 2001. Nine years ago, the Benchmark clamping system set standards for ergonomics that still represent the highest possible ones to this day, says Desma. The completely new designed S3 version is to continue this success.
New potential for efficiency
On the S3 machine Desma presents with ServoGear for the first time a hydraulics with servo drive. This energy-saving hydraulic concept is demonstrated with a two-pump system and excels at an energy consumption reduced by 10–13 % (depending on cycle and equipment) as well as at precise positioning and an impressively low noise level.
The clamping unit was fully redesigned and is now fitted with even wider opening strokes and with a hydraulic oil supply that is largely piped respectively integrated into the mould carrier platens. Thus, the number of hoses was reduced to a minimum which is going to be positively reflected in the maintenance overhead.
The Desma patented injection unit FIFO A was completely redesigned as well and is now presented under the name FIFO-Advanced. It provides a lot of new possibilities, e. g. big silicone stuffing systems can now be integrated even in case of small injection volumes.
Moreover, the injection unit can be equipped with the actively driven feeding roller ActiveFeed which allows to process double the strip thickness as against comparable units. The injection unit further enables the intake of strongly varying strip widths and thicknesses, thus creating more flexibility in purchasing the materials which results in really saving money.
The S3 version also features the newly developed and patent pending hydraulically operated non-return valve PlastControl. The result is a distinctly improved precision in material metering and a plasticising precision increased by 50 %. This is particularly advantageous for the processing of low-viscosity materials such as liquid silicone, because the non-return valve can be actively closed.
The most effective approach to save costs is still an efficient material usage and as little rework as possible. A standard of Desma machines which the S3 version meets as well.
User-friendly interface
With the DRC 2020 HT Desma exhibits a completely new operating terminal. In addition to a perfect user prompting, great importance was attached to simplicity and a clear arrangement. Besides the visual interface between human and machine, a haptic feedback is for the first time given to the operator via the terminal. This new operating terminal can be retrofitted on machines with the control system generation DRC 1210/DRC 2010.
The S3 will also be shown with a newly developed covering generation which apart from serviceable big doors features an integrated extraction of material vapours. Together with its low noise level the machine ensures a very comfortable operation.
In addition to the demands on reduced energy consumption, low noise pollution, larger opening strokes, considerably improved intake behaviour, ease of operation and the reduction of material vapour exposure of the staff, the hydro-mechanical quick-lock system QuickLock integrated into the machine simplifies the mould changing decisively. This system completely developed by Desma also comprises the quick clamping of mould centre platens.
As one of the industry's biggest manufacturers of cold runner systems, Desma will have its complete range of products on display with the S3 version at the K show. Together with the Desma mould manufacturing centre 360-degree solutions can be presented from one source.
