Cleaner PU soft foam production with higher output

Using Walki foam products is estimated to reduce raw material costs by some 3 %.

The Finnish Walki Group, a supplier of paper-based carrier materials for the foaming industry, has launched two new products that can help PU foam block producers to cut down on chemical consumption and to reduce waste in manufacturing.

Peelable Walki Peel Foam and conventional Walki Cover Foam materials are used to cover all of the inner walls of the foaming line on which the PU is injected and where it expands. Both products combine recyclable kraft paper with a very thin PE layer. The recyclable kraft paper layer is peeled off when the PU foam block comes off the line for curing, while the PE layer stays in place around the block forming a protective barrier against moisture, dirt, and UV light. The PE layer also prevents the paper from flex cracking during production, ensuring less machine stops. Both products are said to keep foaming lines clean and to bring stable production quality and good chemical hold out, which leads to cost savings and higher profits.
