Mitsui Chemicals: New material solutions for synthetic leather

The Japanese company Mitsui Chemicals will highlight, among many other new and innovative products, Notio SN alpha-olefin-based elastomer.

It has a crystalline structure controlled in nano-order and a syndiotactic structured molecular chain using characteristics of metallocene catalysts. The product is said to have superior heat resistance, flexibility, rubber elasticity, and abrasion resistance in comparison to other olefin elastomers available on the market. Notio SN is highly adaptable to extrusion processes and shows good adaptability to calendaring manufacturing techniques. These characteristics, which were according to the company not possible in olefin elastomers before, make the elastomer perfectly suitable for use in synthetic leather production. Lightweight, phthalate-free and odourless synthetic leathers can be produced which show superior wear and moisture resistance. In addition, Notio SN is highly compatible with olefin polymers and by combining them, adjustment of flexibility and control of processing conditions are facilitated. It is also compatible with polyolefin polymer additives, fillers, and pigments. In test marketing runs the synthetic leather based on Notio SN was highly evaluated by leading customers. Mitsui sees good market potential in areas including automotive materials, bags, shoes, clothing, furniture, stationery goods, etc.

Beside Notio SN Mitsui will inform visitors at K 2013 about its product range including Milastomer thermoplastic olefinic elastomers, Admer adhesive polyolefins, Apel COC, Happoto foam-moulded PP sheets, Lubmer and Mipelon self-lubricating special polyolefin resin and fine-powder PE, Lucant hydrocarbon-based synthetic oil, PP compounds for automotive applications, Tafmer alpha-olefin copolymers, TPX methylpentene copolymers, T.U.X. LLDPE film, and NMT, a new moulding technology.
