“Olympic” tunnel gaskets

Tunnel segment gaskets of the Swiss company Daetwyler Rubber from Schattdorf are currently being installed in three tunnels near Sochi, the Russian city on the Black Sea near the Georgian border, which will host the Olympic Winter Games in 2014.

Daetwyler delivers solutions tailored to the needs of each tunnel system

Some EUR 9 billion are being invested in the construction of sports arenas, transportation systems, power generation systems, telecommunication infrastructure, and hotels. As the alpine events will take place in the nearby mountains, in this case 50 km away at the Krasnaya Polyana ski region in the Caucasus Mountains, tunnels for roads, railway, and utilities are being built to shorten the distance between the event sites in the Krasnodar region. A total of 26 km of tunnel will be bored by the time the games start.

Tunnel segment gaskets will be needed for some of these tunnels, depending on the construction method. The Daetwyler tunnel segment gaskets are tailored to the needs of each tunnel system and reliably protect traffic routes against water penetration, says the company. The first gaskets for Sochi were delivered last year.
