A consortium comprised of Toyo Engineering, Hyundai Engineering and LG International Corp. have been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract, valued at over $800-million, for a gas chemical complex being built by state-owned Turkmengaz in Turkmenistan.

The complex, to be located at Kiyanly in Balkan Province, will have the capacity to produce 400,000 t/y of ethylene using Lummus technology and 80,000 t/y of polypropylene using W.R. Grace technology. The project includes a 5-billion cu m/yr gas separation unit based on Toyo's Coreflux technology. BASF's Oase technology will be used for acid gas removal. Completion is scheduled for 2018.

Toyo's scope of work involves the engineering, procurement of equipment and materials and commissioning, including a license for its Coreflux technology.

Polymer products produced at the complex are planned to be exported and sold mainly in the Asian, European Union and Turkish markets, Toyo said.
