Huntsman Tecnoelastomeri has introduced a range of customisable, MDI-based hot cast elastomers. The Tecnothane VTER series is described as being exceptionally resilient polyurethane materials for the manufacture of wheels, castors and industrial parts, which need to be equipped to perform in extreme working conditions. Easy to process compared to NDI-based technologies, the new series includes six elastomer solutions which can be adapted to match customer-specific requirements. As standard the products offer very good tear and cut resistance plus high rebound and very low hysteresis properties.

Huntsman announced that its Polyurethanes and Performance Products divisions will be presenting and exhibiting at Utech Las Americas this week. The company announced to showcase the division’s broad range of amine catalysts and aldehyde scavengers for polyurethane applications within the automotive, boardstock, insulation, construction, furniture and bedding and spray polyurethane foam markets, as well as its next generation of amine catalysts for HFO-based polyurethane formulations, designed to provide the formulator with an improved polyurethane resin stability.

The transition period for the Elastomer Guideline published by the Umweltbundesamt (UBA), Germany’s federal environmental agency, for assessment of elastomers in contact with drinking water, ends on 31 December 2021. Sulphur cross-linked compounds currently in use in drinking water applications can no longer be used after that time. The German rubber compounder Kraiburg based in Waldkraiburg in Bavaria has succeeded in developing compounds that can be used in elastomer solutions for drinking water applications after that date.

Rubber/metal composites tend to fail prematurely due to loss of adhesion of the rubber to the metal substrate, when they are exposed to aggressive conditions such as marine environments. The aim of this work is to elucidate the adhesion failure mechanism by cathodic disbonding and anodic undermining tests using a commercial bonding system for bonded rubber/metal.
