VIETNAM: Kuwait Petroleum CEO touts progress on Nghi Son refinery & PC complex

The Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. (NSRP) joint venture in Vietnam has reached an advanced stage with respect to the engineering and supplying operations, reported the Kuwait News Agency, quoting Bakheet Al-Rashidi, chief executive of Kuwait Petroleum International, a partner in the project.

NSRP, whose other partners are PetroVietnam, Idemitsu Kosan and Mitsui Chemicals, is building a complex in the northern Thanh Hoa Province to process 200,000 b/d of Kuwaiti crude and produce 700,000 t/y of paraxylene, 240,000 t/y of benzene and 370,000 t/y of polypropylene.

A consortium of JGC Corp., Chiyoda Corp., Technip, SK Group and GS Group is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the complex.

Al-Rashidi expects production to begin in mid-2016, earlier than the previously anticipated 2017 date.
