SAUDI ARABIA: Saudi Kayan allocated ethane feedstock to increase ethylene & EO capacity

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has agreed to allocate an additional 10-million cu ft/d of ethane to Saudi Kayan, beginning 1 July, which will be used to boost production capacity of ethylene and ethylene oxide (EO) at Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

The company will increase ethylene capacity by at least 93,000 t/y and EO capacity by a minimum of 61,000 t/y.

Commissioning is expected no later than the second quarter of 2017.

The additional ethane feedstock will replace the butane feedstock currently being used to produce ethylene.

Saudi Kayan Chairman Omar Al-Amoudi indicated that the ethane feedstock agreement would probably have a positive financial impact on the company's financial performance in the form of SR 280-million in 2015, and SR 600-million per annum, upon completion of the projects in light of the current prices and production rates.
