TAIWAN/RUSSIA: Taiwan plans to expand economic ties with Russia: official

Taiwan plans to expand cooperation with Russia in several different fields, including petrochemical industries, Taiwan's representative to Russia Wang Chien-yeh told Russian news agency Sputnik.

Wang said that Taiwan attaches great importance to foreign trade and hopes to develop trade relations with Russia. It wants to cooperate with Russia or make mutual investments in a number of fields, according to the report posted on the online news portal sputniknews.com.

Currently, Taiwanese investors in Russia are mainly from the information and communications technology industry, Wang said, adding that the petrochemical sector will be a major area of cooperation for Taiwan and Russia in the future.

Russia's petrochemical industry is at the forefront of technological standards and has abundant natural resources, such as natural gas, making it ideal for cooperation with Taiwanese companies, Wang added.
