Wanhua Chemical Group commissions new IPDI plant
The Chinese polyurethanes and petrochemicals manufacturer Wanhua Chemical Group announced the successful start up of its new IPDI plant. The plant is located in the company’s ten square mile Yantai Industrial Park.
According to Wanhua Chemical, it will be the first Asia-based company to employ the complete “IP-IPN-IPDA-IPDI” industry chain technology. With latest phosgene production technology, a fully integrated supply chain and operation management, the new plant will put the company in an advantageous competitive position. The IPDI monomer will be marketed under the brand name Wannate.
“Over the last several years we have been building a very competitive aliphatic diisocyanate product portfolio. After the successful global introduction of HMDI, HDI and their derivatives, the launch of Wannate IPDI will now complete our portfolio and satisfy the global market needs for high performance products. Wanhua will continue to focus on innovation and create even more value for our customers in the future,” said Steven Sun, General Manager of Wanhua Chemical’s ADI business Unit.
IPDI is a cycloaliphatic diisocyanate. Due to its primary and secondary isocyanate groups, it allows controlled poly-addition with polyol co-reactants, which provides the possibility to design molecular structures for specific materials. Major applications of IPDI are waterborne polyurethane dispersions, adhesives and UV resins. The IPDI trimer can be used in non-yellowing PU coatings for various applications such as automotive refinish.
