Adhesive Bonding Showcase held at Albrecht Bäumer in Germany
After taking over the product portfolio of bonding machine manufacturer Lamit in January 2015, the German company Albrecht Bäumer GmbH & Co. KG – known for foam cutting, processing, and transporting solutions – presented its expanded range of products to the wider public.
Albrecht Bäumer organised an Adhesive Bonding Showcase from 16 – 17 March 2016 in Freudenberg, Germany.
As part of a two-day competence forum on bonding, about 100 participants from all over the world visited the Bäumer plant in Freudenberg, Germany. Demonstrations on three different bonding production lines in action as well as presentations by adhesive manufacturers Jowat, Alfa Klebstoffe (Simalfa) and Saba gave participants an understanding of adhesives and processing adhesives in automated coating systems. The focus was particularly on new technologies and adaptations of the adhesive coating systems and line concepts to the rapidly developing adhesives and mattress industry.
The debut of the new Lamit-HRB-PUR machine was a special highlight. “HRB” stands for hot-melt roller bonding. The material, e. g. polyurethane, visco-elastic foam, latex etc., is moved along under a rotating roller that applies a bonding agent, a heated and reactive polyurethane hot-melt adhesive. An optional conveyor, the Lamit-CT moves additional foam sheets onto the already bonded sheets, thereby facilitating efficient sandwich mattress production.
In addition to the industry first, the company presented two well-known Lamit series machines. The Lamit-HM (hot-melt) employs a hot-melt bonding process and is primarily used for gluing inner spring mattresses. The hot-melt is applied to the foam with small nozzles, either in straight lines or in an oscillating pattern. The Lamit-RB (roller bonding), as with the new Lamit-HRB-PUR, is primarily used for producing sandwich mattresses. However, the Lamit-RB has moving rollers that move over the secured material. A special roller height control feature allows the machine to even cover rippled material with a consistent bonding layer. The system uses a dispersion adhesive.
The first night of the event was marked not only by celebrating the successful debut together, but there was also plenty of time to network. After the last machine demonstration, the machinery hall was transformed into a lounge with cocktail bar, and, as part of “Cocktails@Work”, the visiting industry professionals were able to compare notes and give the Bäumer team feedback on the highlighted machines.
