Turkey becomes main base of Pirelli’s industrial tyres business
According to a report in the Turkish daily newspaper “Hurriyet Daily News” on 20 June 2016, citing information from Murat Akyıldız, EMEA CEO of Pirelli, Turkey has been named as the main base of the company’s industrial tyres business in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. In the future, the business with operations in 128 countries will be run from Istanbul, Akyıldız said.
Pirelli’s passenger car tyre operations will continue to be run from Milan, Italy. Pirelli’s tyre factory in Kocaeli, Turkey, already is the company’s largest production facility in terms of both tonnage and output variety, and has an annual production capacity of 7 million units of 675 different kinds of tyres, Akyıldız said. He also noted that it would now be necessary for the business unit to make new investments to further boost capacity. The majority stake of Pirelli was sold to the Chinese state-owned chemical company China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) in 2015.
