BANGLADESH: Plastic industrial estate to be completed by 2018: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said the government is working to ensure an environment-friendly plastic industry in the country and the work on developing a plastic industrial estate is likely to be completed by June 2018.

Amu said the government has taken an initiative to set up an industrial park, spreading over 50 acres, at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj district with a cost of BDT 1.33 billion.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest during the inaugural session of the four-day-long 12th International Plastic Fair-2017 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.

Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) and Chan Chao International Co Ltd are jointly organising the four-day 12th Bangladesh International Plastics, Packaging and Printing Industry fair.

Terming the plastic industry as a top priority sector of the National Industrial Policy-2016, Amu said the government is providing all sorts of supports to make the sector environment-friendly.

According to Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA), more than 300 exhibitors and an estimate of over 11,000 trade visitors have participated in this fair.
