LyondellBasell technologies selected by CAP for PE, PP units at new Cilegon complex

Chandra Asri Perkasa (CAP), a subsidiary of Chandra Asri Petrochemical, has selected LyondellBasell's technologies for a new polyethylene (PE) plant and polypropylene (PP) unit being built as part of CAP's second petrochemical complex in Cilegon, Indonesia.

The project involves a 300,000-t/y low-density PE unit that will utilize LyondellBasell's Lupotech T process technology and a 450,000-t/y PP facility that will use Lyondell-Basell's fifth generation Spheripol PP process.

Also included in the new complex is the production of 1.1-million t/y of ethylene and 600,000 t/y of propylene using Lummus Technology's highly selective SRT (Short Residence Time) VII cracking heaters, and about 175,000 t/y of butadiene using BASF/Lummus Technology butadiene extraction technology. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in 2024.

McDermott was recently awarded two contracts for the licensing and basic engineering packages for Lummus Technology's olefins technology, including the SRT ethylene heater design and critical supply, and the butadiene extraction technology.
