Polytec to build plant in South Africa

The Polytec Group announced that it will build a new plant in the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ), which is located on South Africa’s south-eastern coast, to fulfil a major order for the production of complete vehicle underbody covers and other automotive components for the large volume model of a German automotive manufacturer. According to Polytec, the agreed eight-year delivery period will commence with the start of production in 2021.

The planned investment volume of EUR 10 million is foreseen primarily for production machinery and installations. Four differing plastics production technologies from the composites and injection moulding areas are to be employed at the new location. These will meet the most stringent demands regarding weight optimisation, tensile strength, temperature resistance, aerodynamics and acoustics, said Polytec.

Markus Huemer, who at the beginning of 2019 will assume the post of Polytec Holding AG CEO from his father Friedrich Huemer, said: “This step reflects the systematic pursuit of the Polytec strategy of supporting our key accounts with production facilities in growth regions, in order that we can supply them with our innovative components and customised modular systems on the spot.”

Founded in 1986, Polytec is a developer and manufacturer of plastic components and systems with 28 locations and some 4,500 employees worldwide. For more than three decades, the Austria-based company has been offering its expertise, not only as a complete supplier in the injection moulding field, but also as a specialist for fibre-reinforced plastics, a producer of original accessories made from plastic and special steel, and a developer of individualised industrial solutions in polyurethane, as well as the machines and plants needed for this purpose.
