OMAN: Wood awarded FEED contract from DRPIC for proposed petchem facility in Oman

Duqm Refinery and Petrochemicals Industries Co. (DRPIC) has awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to Wood for a planned petrochemicals facility in the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD) in Oman. The project, the second phase of DRPIC's integrated refinery and petrochemical complex, will include a mixed feed steam cracker with a production capacity of 1.6 million t/y of ethylene; production units for hydrogen, syngas, methanol, and other petrochemicals, and associated facilities. Wood's scope of work, to be delivered by its capital projects teams based in Oman and the UK, will begin immediately. Completion is planned for the third quarter of 2020.

"SEZAD is one of the largest developments of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, attracting significant investment for petrochemicals and infrastructure development aimed at supporting Oman's overall vision for strong and sustainable economic growth," Wood noted. The refinery, currently under construction, will have the capacity to process around 230,000 b/d of crude oil. Completion is due in the first quarter of 2020. DRPIC is a 50-50 joint venture of Oman Oil Co. and Kuwait Petroleum International.
