IRSG: World Rubber Summit to be held as a virtual event on 8 – 11 June 2021

The World Rubber Summit 2021 will take place as a virtual event under the theme “Facing the Future: Inclusiveness, Sustainability and Growth for the Next Normal” from 8 – 11 June 2021. According to the organiser, the International Rubber Study Group (IRSG), moving into the current decade, the global economy has witnessed one of the worst economic crisis in history. In addition to the tragic loss of life, the Covid-19 pandemic has rolled back decades of progress on poverty and has exposed social and economic inequalities.

The economic shock of the pandemic crisis has exposed the weakness of economic and social systems in many countries, but it has the potential to provide an opportunity for transformative growth, said IRSG. The rubber economy is not an exception. New mobility, digitalisation, climate change and the development of the “green economy” are among the driving forces that will determine the future for the rubber sector. The World Rubber Summit 2021 will bring together leaders, experts and Government representatives to discuss on how all stakeholders could cooperate to establish a real change towards a more socially responsible production and consumption to assure a fair, inclusive and sustainable rubber economy growth in this decade. The host government for this year’s event is the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
