Air Products starts amines JV in China
Air Products, Le High Valley/Pennsylvania, USA, has formed a joint venture for the production of triethylenediamine (TEDA) with Chinese chemicals supplier Changzhou Shangfeng Chemical Industry Co. Ltd. (CZSF). The JV, called Air Products Shanfeng, will supply China’s growing polyurethanes market, Air Products announced 31 May. Air Products Shanfeng is based at a production site in in Changzhou in Jiangsu Province, which was formerly owned by CZSF. The US group, which is the majority shareholder, said the JV is part of its strategy “to build long-term infrastructure in China and to support the growth of its TEDA business.” TEDA is used as a catalyst in the production of flexible slabstock foam for furniture, carpet underlay and automotive seating applications as well as in shoe soles. Air Products estimates that polyurethanes demand in China is growing by at least 10% a year.
