Noveon has started up of its new TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) plant near Shanghai, China.
The facility will supply customers in China and the Asia Pacific region from mid-2005 and is designed for multiple capacity expansions, the company said. Noveon estimates that PU demand in Asia Pacific region is growing by up to 9%, including growth of 11-13% in China. The company has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong as well as Seoul Korea and Seremban, Malaysia. Timothy Madden, Noveon’s business director in Asia, said: “We have identified a shift in demand in Asia from more commodity-oriented products to higher performance materials. This has been caused by US and European customers expanding into Asia, as well as local Asian firms stepping up their quality and performance standards.”
