In July 2021 Covestro has extensively realigned its organizational structure. The former three segments Polyurethanes (PUR), Polycarbonates (PCS), and Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties (CAS) have been restructured to form seven new entities. TPE Magazine had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Andrea Maier-Richter, the new Head of Covestro’s Business Unit Thermoplastic Polyurethanes, about these new developments.

Asked how TPUs can support the circular economy, Maier-Richter explained: “In the Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) business entity we are continuously innovating with customers and other partners along the value chain to tailor our material to meet application requirements and expand into new applications. Throughout this innovation process we are focused on improving the sustainability of the developed products. We will transform towards a more circular raw material basis by using biomass, recycling streams, CO2 or mass balance attributed raw materials. All while reducing the product carbon footprint and without compromising the needed performance.”
